Thermal Characterization
Environmental Resistance
Thermal characterization or analysis involves the
study of one or more properties of the material as
function of temperature.
The analysis gives Glass Transition temperature, heat

These tests evaluate the resistance of polymers to
some environmental agent other than temperature
and air. Liquids which have no significant effect on
polymers in unstrained conditions can cause severe
effect on them under strained conditions which results
in large number of failures in plastics. Environmental
Stress Cracking Resistance tests by bent strip method
are used for such evaluations. Weathering tests are
conducted to study the effect of environment in which
they are stored. Fire resistance tests are used to
evaluate the resistance of polymers to flame heat in a
fire environment.
